By My Spirit

As the twinkling lights of Christmas disappear in our rear view mirror and the road ahead is filled with the cold rainy days of January, we can sometimes find ourselves in a bit of a slump. We consider having to drag ourselves out of bed, turning on our phones and laptops and getting back into the rat race. Sometimes the enormity of the task in front of us seems so overwhelming it would be easier to stay in bed. We feel more exhausted now than we did before the Christmas break!
If that is how you are feeling going into 2023 I have some good news for you. This morning, as we started our New Year back in the Transform Work office, the first thing we did was pray for you, especially the leaders of our workplace and professional groups. We prayed that God would recommission you as you step back into the world of work. As we were praying for you The Lord reminded us of this scripture.
"It's not by might, not by power but by my spirit says The Lord" - Zechariah 4:6
The good news is that you don't need to rely on your own strength or power to complete what God has given you to do this year. Just as the work of rebuilding the temple would only be achieved by God's spirit and not human effort back in the old testament days, so the work of your hands will only be achieved by God's spirit in 2023 and beyond. This means you can rest in him, trust in him and obey what he says rather than exhausting yourself by trying to achieve it all in your own might, power and understanding. You are an empty vessel in the potters hands, this is not your burden to carry.
There is an old song I used sing at the beach missions as a child that puts it all into perspective in the most simple way:
Trust and obey
For there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus
But to trust and obey
As you think about the work that is set before you this year, we at Transform Work pray that you find peace and rest in Jesus. When you surrender to him, trust him for all your needs and obey his commands, he will see that the work is completed by the power of His spirit.
Happy New Year from all at Transform Work.
