Nick Shepherd is the Programme Director for Setting God’s people Free for the Church of England. This role is a senior position in the National Church Institutions directing a key initiative of the Archbishop’s Council: to strengthen discipleship, encouraging collaborative leadership and inspire the whole people of God to play their role in a renewed church, active in God’s mission across all sectors of our society and in all communities.

Nick holds an MTh in Urban Ministry from Spurgeon’s College and has been involved in leading various expressions of evangelism and mission. His doctoral research from King’s College London, was on people’s faith and identity, which drew on ethnographic and educational research methods. In 2016, Nick wrote a book called Faith Generation: Retaining Young People and Growing the Church, which is based on this research and looks at faith formation in a secular age.

Nick is a regular speaker at conferences and events on discipleship, leadership and mission, as well as areas of academic practical theology.  He is also a licensed lay minister (Reader) in the Church of England and a Trustee for the Southwark Diocese Board of Education and the International Association for the Study of Youth Ministry. Setting God’s People Free is an initiative across the Church of England to enable the whole people of God to live out the Good News of Jesus confidently in all of life, Sunday to Saturday.
In the video above, Ros interviews Nick and he talks about the Setting God’s People Initiative which was based on a report from 2017, about how the Church of England was going to be fruitful in fulfilling God’s mission, how do we equip ordinary Christians to work out what it means to follow God in everyday life. He also talks about a new campaign called Everyday Faith and what does it look like to find and follow God where I am.
