Last week I [Ros] had the privilege of meeting up with Jon Tuckwell who heads up Parks at One in Cambridge. Jon used to work for an organisation based on the Cambridge Science Park and loved his work. Whilst there, Jon developed a real passion to witness to his colleague who didn’t know the truth about who Jesus is, that He died and came back to life so we can live eternally with God by putting our trust in Him. Jon began to pray for his colleagues and speak to them when the opportunities came. He really felt more could be done to reach out to all on the Science Park and yet how…?
God had a plan! The Lord basically took Jon, not only out of his workplace but out of Cambridge. He and his family obediently followed the call on his life to go to Bible College in London. Whilst he was there his passion for workplace ministry grew stronger. Once his training was completed the LORD provided an opening for the family to move back to Cambridge to work in the church that sent him to college, and guess what?- part of that work is to go back onto his old turf, the Cambridge Science Park, and pioneer Parks at One.
Of course now he has a greater confidence and understanding of the Bible and Christianity and a greater authority to speak on topics of science and faith. Jon’s passion is now being fulfilled through Parks at One where he organises short lunchtime talks. The workplace Christian is able to invite colleagues to hear a relevant, cringe-free talk during the lunch break that points people to Jesus. Jon is now able to fulfil His God-given passion to love, care, and reach out to many more people on the Science Park with the Good News of Jesus in a relevant way to those working there.
